Mom went to watch the Telegraph National Debate yesterday.
Her heart was both for an against the motion, Since she had her son on one side (not me, my brother Dravid) and Didi on the side.
The motion was beaten even before it tabled, since it flawed in every possible way.
Should the politicians be left out of the government?
What kind of a dumb person would ask that question, unless you just read Mein Kamph or The Communist Manifesto.
Well I say that cause:
Not having politicians means there would no democracy (no election)
That leaves us with two options
1st President's rule or military rule
2nd A dictator coming to power
Now we all know of the only "successful" economy, our not so friendly neighbors (if you thought Pakistan, I think you should not read the rest of this) ebing run in such a manner and their track record of Freedom of speech (among other things)
Well now that leaves us with the need of having "CLEAN" politicians.
The true question should be, how do we achieve that?
(I do not think that is possible) I would say it's more likely that USA winning the World Cup, well yeah (ICC WC2011), even thought they are not playing (Closest is Canada, finally watching the Sahara in Toronto paid of huh!).
Well ok enough of my pessimism (actually practicality or honesty)
What would we need to get the "CHANGE" (unlike in US, only in color and everything else is the same)
1st We need to ensure two things:
Funding for election is regulated.
Corrupt or tainted candidates are kept out (including next to kin)
We would come to the second matter 1st.
To ensure that some good politician is not played foul, just to keep them out. We need to ensure our Judiciary is strong, independent and regulated.
Now if the Judiciary is clean and Justice is quick and not delayed (denied) then even false cases or LIT would be dismissed and the party filing baseless claims would be aptly penalized to act as a possible deterrent.
Now coming to the 1st point, how do we ensure that funding for each party is regulated?
Well here there should be a cap, just like you would have in sports competition (not IPL) where you can only spend so much on your adds.
Corporate Houses, get tax rewards just like CSR Activities are encouraged.
Say there are X number of candidate in a particular zone, they can only have Y amount of funding.
*Now they would need to show exactly on what they spend the money.
So no one political party can gain mileage by using more money (2 buy votes)
Now about the favoring the corporate house after victory by the funded candidate. This too needs to be regulated.
By close audits of that company books and projects sanctioned by the winning candidate.
Well that would leave us with one problem, which is:
Drive us deeper into coalition politics.
Since this would mean that everybody would (almost) have an equal chance.
Now when our PM blames most scams on the compulsion of coalition politics on National News Channels, would you even start think in such a direction?
That brings me to the reason why I think this is simply not possible and just good for discussion or an idea.
If you reading this, you either have alot of time (like me) or abundant patience (which again requires time)
Just kidding, Thanks
*This idea can be altered not thought it through
